Depending on how your hair grows some people can go longer without regularly trimming their hair, however, it is still necessary. When you think about it the ends of your hair have been exposed to harsh elements the longest (like the weather, sun, coloring, and heat styling) and can become damaged. Over time the new growth will move away from the roots and grow out and away from the scalp. This hair being grown out eventually becomes the ends of your hair and trimming it when needed also leaves the hair in a healthier state. If you ever heard of a hair stylist talking about how ‘split ends travel’ then you heard right! Once a split appears in the hair shaft it can only travel one way, that is upwards, and towards the roots which is the last thing you want to happen. The only way to remove a split end is to chop it off and to be honest it’s not as bad as most of us make it out to be. I love it when I get my hair trimmed because my hair is nice and flowy, when I wear it straight, and makes detangling my hair when curly a breeze. Don’t fear cutting shears at the hair salon but embrace the journey to healthier hair!
