How To Amp Up Your Deep Conditioner

It was wash day for my kinky curls recently and since I’ve been wearing my natural hair braided and cornrowed underneath my customized hair wig, a deep conditioning treatment was a no brainier to restore my hair’s moisture level after wearing this protective style. I normally do a mix of either mayonnaise, honey, avocados, or olive oil as a deep treatment. But once I read about this simple conditioning recipe on NaturallyCurlly.com, which only required adding a few ingredients to my current conditioner, there was nothing stopping me from giving it a try. Besides, I had all of the things I needed sitting in the house so I didn’t need to spend extra money!

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 parts conditioner
  • 1 part honey
  • 1 part clear aloe vera gel (such as Fruit of the Earth)
  • optional oil (such as coconut)

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients
  2. Heat in microwave for 10-15 seconds (just to warm)
  3. Mix the ingredients again
  4. Apply to clean, wet hair in sections
  5. Leave on for 60 minutes with a shower cap on

For the conditioner I mixed 2 parts of the TRESemmé Flawless Curls conditioner and 2 parts of the Biolage Hydrathérapie conditioner (I had a sample packet of the Biolage so I threw it in the mix). For the optional oil I used jojoba oil. It’s the very first natural oil I began using once I went natural. Plus it’s similar to the oil our skin produces. I didn’t bother to heat up the mixture because once I let it sit out it was at room temperature. With all the ingredients combined the conditioner smelled sweet and delicious enough to eat! The conditioner had a great slip to it which made finger detangling my tight curls that much easier and the added oil left my hair with a nice protective barrier. Have you ever tried this deep conditioning combination? If so share your thoughts and if you haven’t would you try it?
